About us

What is Grain of Rice?

A family-run Chinese and Vietnamese kitchen in Webber Greens, West Edmonton, open since 2016. Read our story.

Are you Chinese or Vietnamese?

Both. Our family is Hoa, Chinese people who made their home in Vietnam, from Chợ Lớn in Saigon. We cook Chinese food the Chinese way and Vietnamese food the Vietnamese way. Not fusion. Both, done right.

Is Grain of Rice the old Treasury Restaurant?

Same family. Treasury Restaurant opened in north Edmonton in 2003 and was lost to a fire on Christmas Day 2012. We rebuilt as Grain of Rice in 2016.

Who is your chef?

Khai Phung. He learned in the 1990s at the Mongolian Food Experience in the Kelly Ramsey Building downtown, working under Siu To, and has made our ginger beef since then.

Where are you?

1312 Webber Greens Dr NW, Edmonton AB T5T 7C5, at the Market at Lewis Estates in Webber Greens, West Edmonton. Open in Maps.

What are your hours?

Closed Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday 11 am to 8 pm, Thursday 11 am to 9 pm, Friday 11 am to 10 pm, Saturday 12 pm to 9 pm, Sunday 12 pm to 8 pm.

How far are you from West Edmonton Mall?

About 5 to 10 minutes by car, depending on traffic. We are about 5 km west of the mall on 87 Avenue, at 1312 Webber Greens Dr NW, with free parking. Getting here from the mall.

Is there parking?

Yes. Free parking right at the restaurant.

Is Grain of Rice wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Our location is wheelchair accessible and works well for families and groups.

How do I order for pickup?

Do you deliver?

Delivery through Uber Eats and SkipTheDishes. Order direct for pickup and skip the app fees.

Do you deliver to hotels near West Edmonton Mall?

Yes, through Uber Eats and SkipTheDishes. Our delivery zones reach the hotels around the mall.

Do you have a no tipping policy?

Yes. No tipping, ever. We pay our team fair wages, and our prices reflect that.

Can I bring a large group?

Yes. We are walk-in friendly. For a bigger group, call ahead at (780) 306-3338 so we can get ready for you.

Do you serve alcohol?

Our food

What are your most popular dishes?

Our top three are the vermicelli bowl, pho and Real Ginger Beef. See the whole menu.

How is your pho made?

Our broth is simmered more than 10 hours from Alberta beef bones, and our beef pho is topped with AAA Alberta flank steak. Want it spicy? Try Sate Phở.

Do you use Alberta beef?

Yes. AAA Alberta beef in our pho, Real Ginger Beef and bo luc lac.

Is your food made in house?

Yes, from scratch in our kitchen. The one exception is our green onion cakes: Khai’s own recipe, made just for us by a local maker.

Do you have sweet and sour pork?

Not on our menu right now. For sweet and tangy, try our Orange Chicken. See our Chinese classics.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes. Ask us when you order and we will point you to the dishes that can be made vegan.

Do you have specials?

Gluten friendly and allergies

Do you have gluten free food?

We have ten gluten friendly dishes, including pho, the vermicelli bowl (pork, no spring rolls) and salad rolls. Gluten friendly, not gluten free. Our kitchen also handles wheat, so let us know about allergies or celiac needs when you order.

Is your lemon chicken gluten friendly?

No. Our lemon chicken is always breaded.

Are green onion cakes gluten friendly?

No. They are a wheat flatbread.

Which dishes have peanuts?

Sate Phở, the vermicelli bowl (topped with crushed peanuts) and the peanut sauce with our salad rolls, among others. Tell us about any nut allergy when you order.

Can you handle food allergies?

We will always try. Tell us when you order. Our kitchen is busy and shares equipment, so cross contact is always possible.

Halal friendly

Is your chicken halal?

All of our chicken is halal friendly, and our spring rolls use certified halal chicken. Our fryer is pork free, but woks and pans are shared with pork and beef. We are not a halal certified restaurant. Read the details.

Do you cook chicken separately from pork?

No. Our chicken is cooked in the same woks and pans as our pork and beef dishes. Only our fryer is pork free.

Are your spring rolls halal?

Our spring rolls are made with certified halal chicken and fried in our pork-free fryer.

Is Grain of Rice a halal certified restaurant?

No. If you need strict halal, please know this before you order. We serve alcohol.

Catering and weddings

Do you cater?

Yes. Vietnamese, Chinese or a mix of both, for offices, parties, teams and weddings. See catering.

Is there a minimum order?

No. There is no minimum order.

How far ahead should I book?

Book as early as you can to avoid disappointment. Special requests for weddings need at least one month’s notice.

Do you deliver catering?

Yes. Drop-off (delivery charges apply) or pickup. We do not provide serving staff.

Can catering be gluten friendly?

Yes. We have gluten friendly choices, and we can swap soy sauce for tamari. Gluten friendly, not gluten free. Our kitchen also handles wheat, so let us know about allergies or celiac needs when you order.
